Why Vintage Land Rovers Are Much Better Than Yachts

Summer on the Isle of Wight attracts a lot of yachting fans, for it is the time when the famous Cowes Regatta takes place. However, nobody should be fooled into thinking that this means the islanders all prefer boats to Land Rovers.

Indeed, many on the island will be delighted to see some vintage Land Rovers in action in a charity event that will see up to 27 classic models taking part in a run from Kent to the island, between June 13th and 15th, the Isle of Wight County Press reports.

Raising money for the children’s charity Daisy Chains, the event will include a treasure hunt where drivers will take their Land Rovers around locations on the island such as Ventnor, Freshwater and Ryde.

There will also be a fundraising auction of memorabilia on June 15th at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, where two pre-production 1948 vehicles will be on display, as vintage as Land Rovers can get.

No doubt, these vehicles will have been kept going through the years by some reconditioned Land Rover engines, and this will show other owners just how possible it is to keep an older model going.

Of course, some might claim that this is no proof that Land Rovers are better than boats, as it just means different people like different things.

However, consider this: Last year, the inaugural isLand Rover Rally was held on the Isle of Wight to coincide with Cowes Week. Even when yachts were supposed to be taking centre stage, Land Rover lovers were ready to steal their thunder with models old and new on display.

True, there may be some people who love both boats and Land Rovers, and it should be acknowledged that boats do have their place.

After all, how else would we get all those wonderful vintage Land Rovers across the Solent in the first place?
