A Range Rover specialist in Oxfordshire has created the ‘ULEZ Reborn’, with a sympathetic upgrade on a pre-1981 luxury SUV that complies with London’s Ultra-Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) legislation.
Kingsley Cars revealed the modded Range Rover on the same day that the ULEZ in London was significantly expanded, and it takes advantage of the fact that vehicles more than 40 years old are exempt from the £12.50 daily charge for non-compliant vehicles, and further models will be available with either a 4.0-litre and 4.6-litre naturally aspiration V8s, reports the Shropshire Star.
According to Kingsley Cars, the uprated engines are now capable of producing 220hp and 270hp respectively and can return up to 25mpg.
Aside from the engine, there are plenty of dynamic upgrades and interior refinements, as well as a comprehensive restoration of the vehicle that will completely renew the Range Rover both structurally and mechanically, and all for £125,000.
The ULEZ Reborn has been described bit its creator as a ‘driver-focussed, technology-orientated facelift’, and hopes to be able to offer Range Rover ownership to enthusiasts living within London’s ULEZ, or in other parts of the country with clean air zones.
Each car is stripped to bare metal to allow for any necessary structural repairs to be carried out and a rubberised protective coating applied, before being built back up according to the owner’s desired specification.
The enhancements include a standard-fit ZF automatic gearbox, touchscreen infotainment, heated seats, electric windows and upgraded sound deadening, while Kingsley Cars can also install parking sensors, reversing cameras, LED headlights, and headrest-mounted iPads for rear passengers.
The firm’s own ‘Fast Road’ suspension upgrade with uprated anti-roll bars is also available, as are uprated brakes and lightweight forged aluminium wheels.
The firm is taking orders and expects to be able to deliver the upgraded SUV in around six to eight months.
