Land Rover Has Off-Road Misadventure – In Windermere

Usually, the time for Land Rover fans to find used engines to replace those they already have is when the existing motor has declined so much it really needs to be scrapped. That is often the result of many years running up the mileage, but on occasions, it may be due to a soggy mishap.

While Land Rovers are designed to go off-roading and there are quite a few places in the Lake District where they can impress with their performance – but England’s largest lake isn’t among them.

However, reports The North West Evening Mail, this is exactly what happened to a Land Rover found mostly submerged in Windermere on September 9th. The vehicle was seen in the lake near Belle Isle, with two occupants having made it safely onto land.

Thanks to a tractor and a sturdy rope, the vehicle was eventually pulled clear of the lake. The question now is just how much damage has been done and whether the flooded engine will still be in good enough shape to function once everything has dried out.

If not, the owners will be looking for a replacement engine as well, no doubt, as vowing not to drive so near to the lake shore again as to have such a mishap.

That is not to say Land Rovers cannot sometimes make it through deep water and certainly deal with mud and uneven terrain. But for any driver, it is all about knowing your limits. The good news is that even if the engine needs replacing, the rest of the vehicle will be able to drive again. Fortunately, the area near Belle Isle is very shallow, which is why there are several islands in that part of the lake. Further out, Windermere reaches its maximum depth at 219 ft, making it the second deepest lake in England.
