If there is one thing worse than having a Land Rover damaged, it is to have it stolen. A damaged Land Rover can be rebuilt with specialist help. But a stolen one might not be seen again.
Among those contemplating such a fate right now is Andrew Griffith, who happens to be the MP for Arundel and South Downs. The Conservative MP avoided the fate of so many of his colleagues in the recent general election, but now has to contend with the fact that his Land Rover Defender was taken from Pulborough Railway station car park.
Mr Griffith, who had campaigned on the issue of rural crime before the election, has offered a reward for the safe return of the vehicle. But, sadly, the quality and popularity of Land Rovers does mean they are among the most frequently stolen cars in the UK. That is why Jaguar Land Rover announced a £1 billion programme to combat thefts earlier this year.
Hopefully, Mr Griffith will get his Land Rover back, but when a vehicle is recovered, it can often be damaged, either through neglect, reckless driving (such as joyriding), or damage incurred in its use for further criminal activity. Sometimes that can be superficial damage such as scratches, dents and hot-wiring, but often it can be a lot worse.
The good news is that almost any part of a Land Rover can be replaced. It may be a new engine is required. The chassis could or exhaust could be changed. New windows can be found. Even individual parts like steering wheels, pedals and seats can be replaced like parts in a kit.
None of that will come as much consolation at the moment when a Land Rover owner finds their car has been stolen. But if you do get it back, a rebuild specialist can help you replace any part that is damaged beyond repair.
